Amazon.com Product Description Ideal for power boaters and sailors, the Norcross Hawkeye DF1000D Depth Sounder delivers instant depth updates to help keep you safe in the water. Featuring auto-ranging and auto-sensitivity features, the DF1000D gives precise depth readings (in feet or meters) from 2.5 to 200 feet at speeds up to 63 miles per hour. It also incorporates an advanced three-stage depth alarm warning system with programmable shallow and deep water alarms, while the "Keel-Offset" function allows readings to be adjusted for vessel draft. Today's high-tech, multipurpose depth sounders and fish finders are designed to produce a range of readings, from bottom contour, fish location, and thermoclines, to a variety of other useful sonar data. However, the technology used to decipher between these different signals, coupled with the configuration of their specialized transducers, greatly reduces their ability to give instant bottom readings while on plane. The DF1000D, on the other hand, gives you reliable reading while you're running your boat. Its easy touch, algorithmic, digital programming, waterproof front face, and large, 1.65 x 0.85-inch, illuminated display give you everything you need to make each trip safe and productive. For added convenience, the included transducer can be transom-mounted or glued in. The DF1000D comes with a two year warranty.

Norcross Hawkeye D10D Depth Sounder works great August 26, 2010 bas The D10D installed easily. After testing the unit according to the manual, I glued the transducer to the inside hull under the engine of the inboard engine compartment as instructed. No holes to drill through the hull. Installation of the display in the dash was simple, as was the wiring. Set up and changing minimum depth is easy. I could do without the three loud beeps when turned on. You'll see it is working on the display. The display is big and easy to read. Operation is simple. The unit worked as advertised, even with the unit pinging through the hull. Quick response and fairly accurate. I tested from known depths of 2.5 feet to 65 feet and was satisfied. Weeds in lake sometimes gives erratic reading.
Works just as advertised August 23, 2010 Thomas R. Barr Though precise installation is required, excellent instructions are provided. Worked the first time. Very good at high speed (55MPH) and low speed too. Easy to see.
Hawkeye July 28, 2010 R. Dailey If you are looking for a good depth sound, get the Hawkeye. It works great. Don't even think about the Humminbird one. Can't read below 10 feet. Believe me it's junk. Go with the Hawkeye.
Good unit; transducer challenges July 3, 2010 DAB I purchased this unit to replace an older dash-mounted depth sounder, hoping to use it with the existing through-hull 200 Khz transducer in my 1984 Grady-White Tournament. The unit works as advertised, but I did not succeed with the old transducer. This is likely due to a fault with the old transducer, and not a problem with the Hawkeye unit. The transducer supplied with the unit works fine, but positioning it properly inside the hull in the bilge has been difficult, with less than perfect results so far. I am still experimenting with finding the best accessible spot. I have not tried the transom mount, mainly because the boat is in the water at present, but this might be a better way to go for most folks.
In summary, the unit works fine, but the transducer installation may be challenging.
Great, fast June 12, 2010 Alejandro Lalor (Central Texas, USA) It was painless to install, works great, keeps accurate readings even at higher speeds warning you from running aground.
